MOTD: A Colorful Reverse Cat Eye

I absolutely love playing with colorful eye looks, and my experimentation runs anywhere from a hint of color to a full-on party on my face. I’m trying to get more use out of eye shadows that I’ve been neglecting, so today I thought I’d create a colorful reverse cat eye.

With every look I do, I like to start with eyes so that if things get messy, I don’t have to panic about ruining my foundation. I’m also a firm believer in giving my eye shadow it’s best life, so I always (repeat, ALWAYS) use eye primer to start (currently in the rotation is Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion).

Once I primed my lids I mixed a warm mid-tone brown shadow with an soft orange shadow and buffed it into the crease of my eye using a fluffy blending brush (Sigma E40) and small circular motions.

I mixed the shades Raw Sienna and Burnt Orange from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette.

With a small angled liner brush (Sigma E06) I drew a thin line across my upper lash line with black gel liner (L’Oreal Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner in Blackest Black. Next I took a larger angled liner brush (I used a $3 one from e.l.f.) and applied Makeup Geek Foiled Shadow in Caitlyn Rose to my lower lash line, extending it upwards into a nice flick.

I want the wing to be kind of sharp and soft at the same time so I widened the wing out using the same shadow and a small eye shader brush (Sigma but I rubbed the number off with use).

I brought a bit of that shadow on to the outer third of my lid as well.

I could have stopped there, but where would be the fun in that? With my angled liner brush I took even more purple shadow and traced upward from my inner tear duct area to about a third of the way through my crease.

Since my lids are slightly hooded, I actually brought the shadow just a bit above the crease so it would be visible with my eye open.

I finished the eyes off by filling in my brows and adding mascara to both my upper and lower lashes.

I popped a little bit of shimmery ivory shadow on the inner corners of my eye as well (Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma). You can amplify this look even more with your favorite pair of false lashes!

The finishing touches of this look were foundation, concealer, a dusty pink blush (Makeup Geek Puppy Love, and a soft mlbb lipstick (Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Sheer Rapture).

Hair + eye shadow coordination on point!

I’ll run through my face makeup routine next time (i.e. foundation, concealer, blush, etc.) for those of you who are curious. If you want to read more from me, head over to xovain.com for other postings!

Thanks for hanging with me!

Love and Hugs,

Tamara

  1. Lovely look! Congrats for starting a blog 🙂 Purple shadow and brown eyes have a special place in my heart. I will have to give my one remaining purple ( UD backfire )some love

  2. These warm red tones really make your eyes smolder…and I love warm/cool combo with your purple hair. Definitely going to try a bronzy-red smokey eye this week. And your power brows are inspiring. No exaggeration. (Thrilled you have created your own space to showcase your immense talents.)
