My Current Brow Routine

I had initially planned on doing the “Ride or Die Makeup” tag for today’s post, but I decided to go ahead and do a step-by-step of my brow routine instead (don’t worry, I’ll circle back to the tag next week).

To be honest, I do my brows a lot of different ways (and with various products) depending upon my mood, but lately I’ve been pretty regularly doing the same routine.

To start I take a clean mascara spoolie and brush my hairs in the direction I want them to lay. Some brow products have a spoolie that come with them (as is the case with my NYX Micro Brow Pencil) so you can just use that.beauty box brows 1

Next I underline my brow softly with a brow pencil to give it some definition.

I use the shade Chocolate in both the NYX pencil and in the Anastasia Brow Wiz.

Once I’ve lined the brow, I take the pencil and use small strokes to fill in the rest of my brow, being careful not to be too heavy-handed.beauty book brows 3

When I’m satisfied with the color and the bulk of my brows, I use a the spoolie to blend the pencil in (and to soften up the underlined portion).beauty book brows 4

Finally I set everything with a brown brow gel (my favorite is Glossier Boy Brow in Brown).

Sometimes I go a little heavier on the pencil but this is generally what my brows look like day to day.

Do you fill in your brows? What kind of products do you prefer to use when filling in your brows? Let me know in the comments below and come back Friday for a tutorial on the eye look I’m wearing in these photos!

Love and hugs,

Tamara

    1. ¡Hola! Muchas gracias! No hablo español, así que lo siento si esta traducción es mala (estoy utilizando Google Translate jaja) . Estoy haciendo un tutorial viernes y estaré lista de los productos!

  2. I use a combo of the NYX pencil in Auburn and NYX brow powder/gel duo. If I’m doing a really dramatic look, I’ll darken the outer wing with an old Urban Decay dipbrow-ish product for full on Instagram brows.

  3. A spoolie brush makes all the difference for me! I have a Milani brow powder set I use to fill in and a WnW pencil, but I like the look and the color of the NYX pencil. I underline mine too, but the products I use vary from day to day, time, and the look I’m going for.

    1. Do you find the NYX pencil goes on easily? I’ve gone from red to a very dark black/ purple hair and need new brow pencils, but don’t want to invest in an expensive brand if I’m still trying to find the right shade. I currently have 2 of Sephora’s brow pencils and they tend to be softer than I like. Maybelline’s are super breakable (or I’m just incredibly strong and don’t know it). 🙂

      1. I’ve tried Maybellines and not cared for them either. As far as the pencils, they are fine for me, Wet n Wild has some decent ones as well, if there is a color available that works for you. My store doesn’t have a large color selection. If I spent more money on brow products, I would get the Brow Wiz, as I have heard it is so good from multiple people.

  4. Has anyone tried essence’s product that is supposed to be a dupe for the Gimme Brow? The packaging even looked similar!

    1. I got some from a hearty recommendation from xovain commenter Leaning/strayreprise. It’s nice! More importantly it’s a cool toned nuetral brown.

    2. I have Gimme Brow and the Essence gel. Gimme Brow definitely has a little more oomph, but the Essence gel is great. If I had unlimited funds I’d get the Gimme Brow, but it’s not SO much better that it’s worth the price difference.

  5. Wonderful tutorial. It’s great to see how you use the products. I’ve been using Sephora’s brow pencil and Maybelline’s brow gel, but it’s time for more gel and I may check out Glossier’s. The eye makeup is amazing as well…looking forward to the tutorial on that. SO happy to have creative looks for hooded eyes.

  6. I love the elf brow pencil (with spoolie) in nuetral brown, and I love the Colourpop brow pencils for their price, and CP has a huge range of colors. My kid loves the Dope Taupe shade, and my color is Black/Brown…
