My Top 5 Favorite Red Lipsticks

I’m in the midst of moving right now so I’ve spent a lot of time looking at everything in my collection so I can give away what I don’t want/need. As I was organizing my lipsticks I realized I have quite a large amount of reds so I thought I’d narrow those down to a handful of “can’t live without” shades and a few extras and get rid of the rest. Here are my top 5 favorites:

Karen Murrell Natural Lipstick in Rymba Rhythm

red-lipstick-5This lipstick was sent to me earlier this Spring by my friend Morgan as a part of an international beauty swap we did for xoVain (read about what she sent me here and what I sent her here). I’m still so in love with this color! I typically go for blue-based reds (which you’ll see plenty of in this list) but this warm orange red is so flattering! The texture of this lipstick is very moisturizing like a lip balm but it is fairly pigmented and can be worn sheer or layered for more opacity. It is also surprisingly long-lasting for a hydrating lip color and has a fun cinnamon-candy scent.red-lipstick-6

MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo

red-lipstick-1I won’t go into too much detail about this one since I just talked about it in the Ride or Die Makeup post but it is hands-down my favorite red of all time. It’s the perfect blue-based red shade and I think it’s gorgeous on everyone.red-lipstick-2

Colour Pop Lippie Stix in Bichette

red-lipstick-3Colour Pop is one of my favorite brands for affordable, high-quality makeup, and this lipstick is no exception. This is another cool-toned red but it’s on the deeper end of the spectrum. The formula is matte but very comfortable on the lips; it doesn’t feel like a true matte, it’s a bit more creamy. There’s more transfer with this one than with my normal mattes but I still love it!red-lipstick-4

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Besored-lipstick-7

I don’t own a lot of liquid lipsticks (I’m sure I’ll amend that at some point though haha) but this has been one of the formulas I’ve liked the most. It’s thin but creamy at first so I think it layers well, and it dries down to be very matte. It can be drying, especially in the center of the lips (inside) and the outer corners but otherwise I think it wears pretty comfortably for a liquid lipstick.

This one is best worn with a lip liner if you want more crispness (I forgot to line my lips first here).

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella

red-lipstick-9I got a mini of this lip pencil for my birthday at Sephora and it was one of those lip products I’ve been eyeballing for a while but didn’t want to take the plunge and actually buy into the hype. Well, I’m officially on the Cruella train and I will never get off. The formula is very matte miraculously still comfortable, the shade is perfect, and the pencil makes it so easy to apply! red-lipstick-10

  1. I love lots of red lipsticks but Kate Moss for Rimmel 01 is the most perfect red that I never tire of. I also love 111 “Kiss of Life” for a warmer red. I have gotten compliments from strangers about what a perfect red Colourpop’s “Trust Me” in the matte xx formula is too.

  2. I love the Cruella too as probably the brightest red I own. However, I get a lot of compliments in my orange-red lip by Wet n Wild (don’t remember the name). I find myself reaching for more neutrals and berry tones than bright red. I’m new to lipstick though, so I’m working up the courage to wear it more often!

  3. Bichette looks awesome on you! It’s the only ColourPop lippie I own and it’s a little dark for me. Cruella looks awesome on you, too. I love the color, but I find the staying power to be terrible. Do you use a lip pencil?

PS. Long time xoVain reader here, but I just discovered your blog. You’re my favorite xoVain contributor and I will now binge read everything here!

  4. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting myy own weblog and was curious what all is needed to get set up?
I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cot a pretty
penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100%
positive. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    1. Sorry for the delayed response! I think cost really depends on what materials you have available to you. As far as equipment I have a pretty standard DSLR Camera (Canon Rebel T3i), a tripod (I got a cheap one at best buy), and two soft boxes for supplemental lighting (I try to shoot using natural light as much as possible but I like to have those as a back-up in case I have to shoot at night or if the weather gets funky). I got the soft boxes on Amazon a couple of years ago but I think the whole set with bulbs, stands, etc. was under $100. The camera was a gift but I think my dad got it for somewhere around $300 on sale. As far as background fabric I seriously just got get a yard of fabric from Walmart or Joanns and duct tape it to the wall behind me lol. The basic wordpress is free so right now I’m not paying anything to run the site, but with the free account you don’t have your own domain and they can run ads on your page. I’ll probably upgrade at some point but for now it’s a good start. Hope this helps!

  5. Yesssss, gawd! I love a red lippie! I need to break out my Bichette, it’s been too long.
My fave reds are Ruby Woo, Riri Woo, True Love’s Kiss from the MACxMaleficent collection, Kat Von D Adora and Kat Von D Sante Sangre.
