This $3 Brow Gel is my Makeup Bag Staple!

For a long time I would get my brows waxed once a month and then use a pencil or pomade to fill them in for a bolder look. I like a strong brow, but I was getting tired of that extra ten minutes spent getting them as close to perfect as I could (*chants* sisters not twins, sisters not twins). Eventually I stopped getting them waxed as regularly and started just letting them grow how they grow. Unfortunately, they started to get to a point where pencil and pomade made them look like two burly caterpillars facing off on my forehead, so I had to switch things up!

I knew that since I was going more natural with my brows I needed a product that would tame them but still let them look like my brows. I’d had good luck with Glossier Boy Brow and Benefit Gimme Brow in the past, but I wanted something more affordable to work with (boo boo on a budget ya’ll). I’d heard a lot of people say that Essence Make Me Brow was a dupe for Gimme Brow, so I decided to give it a shot. Best. Decision. Ever.

I am OBSESSED with Make Me Brow, even if I’m not wearing full makeup up I use it! The formula is the perfect consistency, not too watery, not too thick, just the right combination of both. I find that it gives my brows a nice, natural tint, and keeps the hairs from sticking out all over the place. It also lasts all day without smudging or smearing, yet doesn’t make my eyebrows flake or look dry.

The wand is also really handy because it’s a little longer than some of the other gels I’ve tried, but it’s not as large as a traditional mascara wand. I do find I have to be a little careful to swipe some of the excess product off before applying (the wand picks up a lot). My only other complaint about this product is that it’s limited on shades (Ulta only has 3). I use the shade Browny Brows but I wish they had one more darker color with some warmth. Still, it works well and saves me time in my routine!essence brow2

I am floored that this only costs $3 (Ulta)! I think it performs just as well if not better than some of the high end brands I used before and it is significantly cheaper!

  1. After trying a couple of the “expensive” brow solutions, I still think the “cheap” options perform just as well, if not better! Hell, I ditched a mostly full Anastasia brow pomade for a ColourPop one and have never looked back. I wish I had the baseline brows for a gel, but mine are so sparse I need the heaviness of a pomade.

  2. I love the cool color of Make Me Brow (so many brunette brow skew warm or red!) and I like the amount of tint, although my sparse brow still needs help. I’m a huge fan of Colourpop’s Brow Boss gel, which is clear and keeps them wolfy, but reserved without stiffness. I love their pencils and pomade too for a dark cool color match.
